Shards Shirisago, known as  (白須シャード, Shirasu Shadō) in Japan, is a character appearing in the anime and manga series, Beyblade burst. She was also main antagonist of the first season, and was the first female to have an antagonist role.

She is one of the most vicious and skilled Bladers appearing in the series, she currently has a long running national winning streak as the top female Blader in Japan. as well as the first female Blader to earn a national championship title. She fought with her beyblade Strike Sadryn Two Tear.

In Beyblade Burst Turbo, Shards returned with her new Turbo Beyblade, Turbo Sadryn.

In Beyblade Burst Surge, Shards returned with her new Lightning Beyblade, Destroy Sadryn Quake-8 Spark along with the rank of S-Tier #5. She was also a s competitor in the Legend Festival the Ultimate Tag Series tournaments.

In Beyblade Burst QuadDrive, Shards returned with her new Quad Beyblade, Ignite Sadryn S2 Spark.

Appearance[]

Shards is a short girl with ink black hair (reflected as dark purple when in contact with light) and tanned skin with indigo coloured eyes that consist of a black ring around the centre. She also has sharp teeth and is slightly smaller than Lui Shirosagi.

In Burst and Evolution she wears a black sleeveless midriff shirt with spike like parts on her shoulders, the bottom of the midriff is shaped like an upside down V with a dark purple stripe lining the edge. She wears black tights reaching to her ankles with a V shape when her tights start on her waist with a purple stripe lining the top. Her shoes are white zip laced boots With purple highlights on the bottom, purple laces and a heel at the back. When training she wears an ink black matching set of tights and a sports bra paired with white laced hightop sneakers.

In Turbo Shards now wears a similar version of her original crop shirt only now sleeveless without edges and a pointy collar that reaches half way up her neck. She has ink black tights that reach to her knees and has an over skirt (without the back part). She has her classic white boots with her dark purple stripe also lining them.

In Sparking Shards has grown taller, she wears her standard ink black crop shirt with a purple Beyblade pin on the right side of her chest, the purple highlight surrounding her neck at the top of her shirt (much like her Burst attire) now extends to her shoulders. She now wears white wrist guards that also have purple highlights on the edges with a black under layer which also covers her middle fingers on both hands, along with her ink black tights and her classic white boots accompanied by a disconnected purple belt with white highlights.

In Quad Drive Shards wears a modified version of her attire from Beyblade Burst Surge, the top of her midriff shirt now has 2 spikes on the left and right sides on her shoulders, she also now has a feather-like golden pendant in her hair and Beyblade symbol earrings on both ears. Her white boots now have caps at the front and highlights on her heels. And she now has an upper spinal dragon tattoo of Lui Shirosagi's Luinor.

When Shards resonates with her Beyblade, her hair sparks neon purple from her roots down to her edges. In Beyblade Burst Surge and Beyblade Burst QuadDrive her eyes glow a sharp light purple & white colour and her pupils are not visible, followed by the spark in her hair.

Personality[]

Shards is a viciously terrifying Blader both in and out of the arena and she's extremely dismissive towards others whom she believes will waste her time. But can be often pretentious to people below her. She is quite closed off and prefers to mind her own business and she does not interact with anyone, exceptions only include Lui Shirosagi, yet conveys a high level of maturity and discipline for her age. She is often aggressive to others especially those she believes are hopeless, irritating, out of her interest or just a complete waste of her time. And has little care for others feelings in general. This is demonstrated during her matches to assert dominance over her opponents beating down their hopes and self esteem. The only people she shows mutual respect to are Gabe Brunai and Lui Shirosagi (love interest) whom she demonstrates genuine respect to. Shards is one of the worlds most feared Bladers, and does not care wether she makes or breaks another blader's spirit. She has pride in her blading skills and is very well aware of the terrifying strength she olds behind her, she often likes to overwhelm and terrify her opponents with it leaving them shocked or in tears on the floor. Shards does not feel any kinds of emotions for those she ruins, in fact it motivates her to see her opponents suffer defeat and humiliation.

Shards often likes to induce fear into her opponents reminding them why she holds the titles she has, it also acts as a warning to bladers that are ranked below her to know their place and to not risk messing around with such a furocious force. Despite the fact that she comes off as closed off, direct and intimidating, she does not condone competing against someone with disadvantages (such as injuries or boundaries). Despite the fact that Shards always battles even she may be critically injured, nothing holds her back from victory and the humiliating defeat of her opponents. She wants to destroy her opponents at their fullest to beat down on them even harder.

In Beyblade Burst Surge, Shards has been seen to be much more approachable to the challenges of new bladers whom she meets. She has developed much more caring virtues however, still holds an aggressive and competitive attitude to which she is still very well known for. This is also demonstrated when she forms a mutual bond with Ilya Mao in Beyblade Burst QuadDrive after she beats her and commemorates Ilya for her efforts. Although she still prefers to be quiet and mind her own business, as she believes being talkative is a distraction.  

Biography[]

Beyblade Burst[]

Shards is an aggressive and blood thirsty blader, not to mention she is one of the most vicious and feared blades around the world, as well as a member of the supreme 4. She is the first female known to win a national championship title as well as have a consecutive championship streak of four (now currently five) tournament victories. She attended the same class as Gabe which resulted in them both mutually communicating. Later on Lui had transferred to their class giving Shards an introduction to him, despite them both not communicating but only seen starring at each other.

Shards was first introduced at the Supreme four grand reunion held by Zac, it was also Lui & Shards's first reunion since class together as male and female national tournament champions. She greeted the other members with a simple handshake yet greeted Lui with a firm and rather tight gripped handshake in which he returned the favour followed by him complimenting her strength. She sits beside Lui to observe the match between Zac and Valt, later becoming bored and leaving early.

Shards is not present on any team, and does not compete in the national tournament team battles nor does she make an appearance on stage. However, she was seen standing in the back of the audience observing the team battles finals, after Lui's appearance with Rideout. Shards later competes in the upcoming individual matches national tournament and makes it through without giving up any points easily. Later to again become victorious in her fifth championship so far. Lui and Shards do not go head to head in the tournament, as both of their statistics are exactly equal and their previous battle in their first tournament final kept ending in consecutive ties, which is the reason why she is crowned as the female champion and Lui as male. Over the course of the individual matches tournament, Lui & Shards's relationship is seen to progress well.

Beyblade Burst Evolution[]

Shards first appeared directly after Lui's match against Red Eye (Shu Kurenai) in which he went against Valt after successfully defeating and unmasking Red Eye. They again greeted eachother and moved on to compete in the International Blader's Cup. As the tournament progressed both Shards and Lui got the opportunity to go head to head with Free De La Hoya, in which it was Shards's first time going against the world champion and Lui's second. Shards ended up losing the match (semi finals) despite giving her all, this counted as her first loss ever in the series.

Beyblade Burst Turbo[]

Shards's first appearance was with Lui while he was doing his intense training upon their return to the National Beyblade Training Centre. She than follows Lui and appears in the audience at the title match between Valt and Lui, as he challenged Valt for the championship title. Lui introduced Shards to Suoh (Lui's old training partner) following Suoh introducing both Lui and Shards to Fubuki. Fubuki challenged Shards and fortunately she won fairly quickly with a burst finish. She observed the match between Lui, Aiger, Ranjiro and Fubuki and later on congratulated Lui for his win. The pair went on to announce the Lúinor Cup.

Beyblade Burst Surge[]

Shards returned appearing on Ogre Island to become reunited with Lui once again after having some time apart. She accompanies him on the island for the duration of Lui's match with the Hizashi brothers. Later on to be challenged by them and emerging victorious by a staggering amount.

  • Ignite Boost: Shards makes a full circle with her right leg and leaps into the air propelling herself backward as she launches her Beyblade forward to increase it's speed and accuracy.

Special Moves[]

  • Darkness Override: Sadryn speeds up and does 3 laps around the stadium increasing it's momentum and power and strikes it's opponent head on with one of the dragon blades dealing a huge amount of damage.
  • Destroy Break: Sadryn increases it's speed in a matter of seconds rebounding off the stadium wall and slicing straight through it's opponent head on with it's destroy blade dealing an excessive amount of damage.

  • Ignite Claw: Sadryn changes it's direction and strikes it's opponent 3 times from different angles with more power than the last, this makes it near impossible for opponents to survive or recover from this attack.

Shards is aggressive, arrogant and an extremely confident character. She is the first female blader to win a national title as well as have a consecutive win streak of four National Tournament Championships officially being crowned as Japans female champion alongside Lui, is the strongest In the supreme four. She holds a terrifying amount of power which she uses to intimidate and draw fear into her opponents. She is ruthless in and out of the arena and only settles for the best which causes friction amongst other bladers, that only fuels her drive to destroy all her opponents so they never forget it.

Shards is one of the worlds top female bladers (ranked second nationally) as well as one of the big 5. Her persistence as well as her incredible skill and strength make her unbeatable to her opponents, as well as one of the well most known feared bladers due to her almost bloodthirsty personality. She truly is everyones biggest nightmare.

With her fearful reputation of beating on Blader after the last, Shards is one of the fiercest Bladers in the world which demonstrates why she's the Asian female champion. Her fearfull, confident and arrogant nature is what makes her so powerful and attractive, specially towards Lui Shirosagi.

With overwhelming confidence and an endless amount of drive to destroy, Shards Shirisago is no doubt one of the best female bladers around. Dragging behind her excessive amounts of skill and natural talent, her thrive to win only keeps getting stronger by the day. She does not battle people who will not present her with a challenge and when accepted, fights with amazing amounts of power and fear.

With viciousness and sheer strength, Shards is a Blader worth fearing. She only battles blades if she thinks they have what it takes to handle her heat, she does not ever hold back what she is capable of and has no issue pushing herself and her opponents to their limits.

Relationships[]

Lui Shirosagi[]

Shards met Lui back when she attended academy with Gabe at first and then Lui transferred. She began developing a slight attraction for due to their similarity in social interaction after she found they would be attending the same class. Shards's aggressive and isolated personality makes her hard to approach, let alone to confess feelings as she believes thats a sign of weakness. Lui began paying attention to her after overhearing that she herself was also a blader much like him. Lui took an affectionate interest in her during his rise to champion, for her blood thirsty drive and raw strength and determination. As Shards grew into one of Japan's most powerful female bladers. His feelings grew overtime as he would observe all her matches without her knowing. Despite this, he did not confess to Shards about it as she herself also kept her feelings well hidden. He ran into her one afternoon in which Shards was training, and demanded a battle in an attempt to see her strength in person and figure her out. In which Shards accepted determined to show just how furious she is, that she is in fact no lie. They had several rematches as they kept ending up all in simultaneous burst/ring out finishes. Both of them then developed stronger feelings for one another realising their similarities in strength and alike thinking, however they were both unaware they had felt this way towards each other. With them both later on having to split the championship title into male and female champion due to their equality in strength and power, Lui felt even more drawn to her being attracted by her strength and her violent aggression she displays in and out of the arena. The pair were later confirmed to be an affectionate pair from episode 49 of Beyblade Burst onward although although there was no direct scene showing their confession in the anime or manga. He often smirks at her in a defiant and aggressive way her or pinning her to walls showing acts of dominance over her as if he'd "destroy her" (in a flirtacious manner). She often flusters and angrily shrugs off or pushes him away at his attempts and ignores his remarks, yet she still silently pays attention to his every word he throws at her. Despite the fact that Lui has little to no time for any affectionate bond, his interest in her, knowing shes such a unique blader has contributed to him putting fourth effort to pursue her. Which is the first time in the series this has occurred.

They are often seen together in most episodes where either Lui or Shards are present, with the exception of Beyblade Burst Rise In which they both made no appearance until Beyblade Burst Surge onwards.

Quinn Shirisago[]

Shards's younger sister, however they rarely see each other as Quin lives Shards's parents. Shards has a very solidified bond with Quinn, she is the only person Shards won't criticise or insult and instead guides her on the right path, as Shards is aware she is young and doesn't fully understand. Despite the fact that Shards doesn't get to see Quinn very often, she is interested in watching her grow as a blader wondering if her guidance will be taken or not.

Gabe Brunai[]

Both Gabe and Shards attended the same academy and were in the same class starting their mutual friendship, although she did not train in the Bey Club unlike Gabe. Since she prefers to be in an environment with no interruptions or distractions. She use to chat with him every now and then, which progressed their mutual friendship as well as surpassing each other at the training centre whenever they were entering or leaving the facility.

Free De La Hoya[]

Shards seems to be on good terms with Free and is considered a skilled opponent to her. They are not seen as friends, but merely fierce rivals who seem to be highly competitive as Free holds the highest Blading titles in the series.

Dante Koryu[]

She was introduced to Dante through none other than her partner Lui Shirosagi, in the second round of the Ultimate Tag Series. Shards prior to knowing much about him thought of Dante as quite an inconvenience to and a possible 'distraction', which resulted in her showing a very pretentious and closed off attitude towards him. Shards would silently pay attention to Dantes progress during practise, later proving himself in the stadium opened her eyes to a much more focused and dedicated blader. Despite their personalities being opposites, they seem to be on good terms as the series progresses.

Ilya Mao[]

Shards and Ilya met upon her arrival on Ogre Island to challenge both Lui Shirosagi and herself considering the legendary titles the pair hold. At first, Shards was not too fond of her extremely playful personality prior to their upcoming battle. Although Ilya lost to Shards, she still commemorated her even though she looks at Ilya as a blader less skilled than herself. Ilya promised that one day she'd be back to challenge her again, Shards acknowledged this with a faint smile, showing a fraction of her warmer side. The two are seen to have a mutual connection and are on good terms, but specifically rivals. Both characters being female plays a big part in their connection considering there are no other main female bladers that appear or interact during the Burst series.
